The Office of Communications & Government Relations serves as the official branding and marketing voice of the college, promoting positive and consistent images for internal and external audiences. The office provides college news, information, access to subject matter experts, and information about college-wide events that positively endorse its mission. From communications strategies that include public relations, marketing and advertising, to government and legislative affairs, social media and non-technical website management, as well as creative (graphic design), editorial, and production services, the office directs these efforts to effectively communicate with the public and college community.

The department connects reporters to faculty, staff, and students to share stories about its research, people, and programs.   The department also responds to media inquiries, works with administrative units and the faculty to write and distribute press releases and advisories, and provides subject matter experts to help promote news and information to various audiences through local, state, national and international media outlets. Public Relations & Editorial Services

  • researching and writing press releases, advisories, and official statements
  • conceptualizing and developing pitches to media outlets
  • providing coverage of, and reporting on campus events as available
  • managing the writing, editing, and proofreading for a range of publications
  • providing appropriate research and responses to media inquiries
  • managing communications on campus-wide issues as required
  • fulfilling media requests for faculty experts

The department will continue to use a variety of communication methods to reach the public which includes prospective and current students, parents, supporters, and the media, among others through an expanding social media presence, an enhanced website, as well as advertising and marketing campaigns.

Creative & Design Services. Print Production & Support. Photographic Services.
The department provides creative in-house design services for the college campus that include, editorial, multimedia, photography (as available), and production in coordination with campus initiatives and events, and assures compliance with college and CUNY graphic identity policies, guidelines, and requirements. All designs, and the majority of the printing and production services, are completed on our campus. Design & Production Services
  • conceptualizing, designing, and producing print and digital materials
  • overseeing and producing the college’s electronic publications and marketing collateral, including the annual report, flyers, stationery, brochures, business cards, invitations, banners, event programs/journals, and print advertising
  • providing guidance and purchasing recommendations on all aspects of print and electronic production support

Video Production & Photographic Services

  • creating promotional video materials for admissions recruitment, student retention, fundraising, special events, and the KCC website
  • coordinating and maintaining library of faculty and staff portraits
  • maintaining digital photography gallery and archives for college
  • providing photography support for on-campus events (as available)

Government Relations & Civic Engagement plays a critical role in working to strengthen the college’s relationships at all levels of government and with the community. Government Relations serves as the College’s official liaison, and is the first line in communicating with elected and appointed government officials. In collaboration with the City University of New York, the Office coordinates advocacy efforts for the University's legislative agenda, promotes civic engagement among the college community, and organizes events that directly engage government officials in the life of the College. 
NOTE:  Faculty and staff seeking to engage elected and other political officials regarding appearances, or funding requests must do so in collaboration with the Government Affairs Office.

  • serves as the official college liaison and point-of-contact for all legislative matters and community matters, and all engagement of elected and appointed officials
  • develops in conjunction with University Government Relations, short- and long-term legislative policies, objectives, and strategies in support of the mission and priorities of CUNY and the college
  • provides critical legislative analysis, strategy, and counsel in support of the college’s mission and priorities

Civic Engagement

  • oversees strategic planning, programming, and operations of the college’s Center for Civic Engagement
  • provides expertise and support for faculty, staff, and students seeking to establish civic engagement courses and projects—in conjunction with the office of Academic Affairs
  • provides leadership on national civic engagement projects and programs
  • supervises the college’s CUNY Service Corps Program
