Pathway to Successful Careers in Biotechnology and Bioengineering

Want to become a scientist the easy way?


Start at KCC and transfer to excellent four-year institutions:

Brooklyn College (Biotechnology), CCNY (Bioengineering) or Stony Brook (Bioengineering)

Receive$2000 stipend money ($500 per semester) while you stay in KCC AND

$4000 scholarship money at BC, CCNY or Stony Brook

Have opportunities to see medicine, science, and mathematics in action by doing research projects or internships at prominent medical centers and/or research labs.

Join the Academic Associates Program at BC that gets students involved in meaningful research and potentially work at the Kings County Hospital Trauma Center.

Career statistics:

Biomedical Engineers:

BS level, starting salary $68,000

MS level, starting salary $79,875

The Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) projects a 21 percent growth for biomedical engineers, with an estimated 3,000 new careers created in the industry through 2016.

Program Features

Trips-students will visit science institutions such as the NY Hall of Science.

Science Career Day-get acquainted with research centers and biotechnology companies. Representatives from industry and academic research centers will expose students to their current developments and potential employment opportunities.

NYAS-Join the New York Academy of Sciences, a partnership of over 30 universities and academic medical centers that provides cutting-edge information to scientists all over the world.

Internet Cafe- A meeting place reserved for the cohort.

BBC Forums: Once each semester, the BBC educational forum will present to the faculty and participating students up-to-date research advances in the world ofbiomedicine, by inviting researches in the fields to give a guest lecture.


Science fair: An opportunity to present your research project at the regional science fair for community colleges in the NY metropolitan area.



All applicants must complete an application, found online,and return as a Word attachment to KCCBCC@gmail.comby APRIL 15, 2010

All students must take Honors Pre-calculus, MAT 14 and Biostatistics MAT 91, and pass with a minimum grade of B

Biotechnology cohort must take Bioinformatics, BIO/CIS 60 and pass with a minimum grade of B

Bioengineering cohort must take Applied Linear Algebra and Vector Analysis, MAT 82 and pass with a minimum grade of B

All students must maintain cumulativeacademic average 2.7 and 3.0 average in math and science
